Notes on Marian Hamilton

Marian Hamilton worked in the business world for many years, doing marketing, account management and product development in computer software for Donovan Data Systems, before becoming a freelance writer in the 1980's; her works include "The Best Things in NY are Free" (1986 & 1991) and "The Best of Westchester" (1990 & 19997). In the 1990's she also served on the boards of many school and civic associations.

In 2002, Marian's husband Ken was diagnosed with mesothelioma. Marian became his primary care giver until his death in 2004. Since then, she began, in his memory, a Caregiver Center at Northern Westchester Hospital, where family caregivers can get help and relaxation when their loved ones are in the hospital. During the past year, they have raised nearly $850,000 to support the center (to be opened in Spring, 2007) and have created a caregiver coach program in which 10 trained volunteers work with families in crisis.

Marian has a BA in History from Boston University and attended the Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College. She has lived in Armonk for 18 years with daughters Michelle, 20, and Ashley, 19.
