Dr. Robert J. Roelle has been the Superintendent of Schools for the Ossining School District for the past 14 years. Prior to coming to Ossining, he served as Assistant Superintendent for the Bay Shore, NY district; past experience also included assistant superintendent for the Special Education district of Lake County (Gurnee, IL), where he also taught; and Junior High social studies teacher in Roundtree, IL. Dr. Roelle holds a Doctorate in Education in Leadershiip and Policy Studies from Loyola University in Chicago.
Throughout the years, Dr. Roelle has participated in many inter-district task forces and has given many professional presentations on the role of superintendent, the development of district long-range plans, support and development of staff, administrators and school board members, community involvement in education, development of early intervention and high school programs, and closing the "achievement gap" (i.e., the difference in academic achievement between racial and ethnic groups of students, even when controlled for economic and other factors) which exists nationwide. Dr. Roelle's extensive research and experience with other district leaders has led him to conclude that, because of its excellent students and staff, Ossining is one of the best school systems in the country.
